I love that so many of the women in my community are in the same age range as me. For some reason I thought that 40 was going to be way harder to accept than it has been. I feel like I still look like me, just with a little more… definition. Sharing my life online for over 12 years has created somewhat of a video diary of my life and because of that I can see the changes over the years. The thing I notice the most is that I feel like I look YOUNGER than I did only 5 years ago. Embracing my natural greys and being unapologetic about my skin and age has allowed me to see my inner glow.
The reason I'm starting with this message is so that you can first learn to appreciate your inner beauty so that you can then fall in love with your natural outer beauty. I’ve never seen makeup as a way to cover anything up. To me, it has always been about creativity. A way to express how you're feeling, show talent and embrace the art of makeup.
That being said, I am in the very privileged position to be gifted makeup often from cosmetic companies and therefore get to test and review foundations on a regular basis. Over the last year I have really fallen in love with 4 foundations that flatter my 40 year old skin! Even though I was originally gifted these products I have purchased refills (one of them 3 times!) and have officially claimed them as my Top 4 Foundations for Forty! Here they are in no particular order. If you want to try them out I will be linking them through my favorite platform that pays me a small commission should you choose to purchase through my link! Enjoy!
Kosas Revealer Skin-Improving Foundation (Broad Spectrum SPF 25)
Kosas is steadily becoming one of my top favorite brands! Their Wet Slick Lip Products are holding a permanent spot in my purse. Their foundation was a quick favorite for me because it has skin loving ingredients in it. At 40+ skin care is paramount in my daily routine so if it can be in my foundation as well, sign me up! I’m a daily SPF wearer so bonus points that it’s built into this foundation.

I had the honor of being the first group to see this now viral “egg foundation” It got that name from its egg shaped packaging. I knew right away it was going to be a winner! This is a vegan formula that is very long lasting. I love to wear this foundation when I am looking for a full coverage look. Typically I will steer clear of full coverage, but this formula somehow perfected full coverage that is super hydrating without accentuating any fine lines. While I would like to see a more inclusive shade range for the darker colors, I would say that this is a non-oxidizing formula that is perfect for that date night glam.
Coverage: Full
Finish: Hydtrated Glow
Color Match: Better to match in person than online
My Color: Light Neutral
Wear Time: 12+ hours
I was so hesitant to try this foundation. BeautyCounter is a Multi Level Marketing (MLM) company. I was part of an MLM company for 6 years and tend to steer clear of reviewing MLM products for a multitude of reasons. I was gifted a PR package when BeautyCounter branched out and into Ulta Beauty. I decided to give it a try because the brand is known for using really clean ingredients. This was an IMMEDIATE love for me. It is the perfect light to medium, buildable coverage that felt like I was wearing nothing on my face. I recently just repurchased my THIRD bottle of it! I recently read that BeautyCounter is closing as an MLM and am looking forward to watching this brand expand.
Coverage: Light to Medium and buildable
Finish: Skin-like and glowy
Color Match: Spot On
My Color: Med 320
Wear Time: 10+ hours
This may be the perfect foundation formula. One and a half pumps is all I use to get this gorgeous hydrating foundation to cover my entire face. The thing that stands out the most about this foundation to me is how it works well with any other makeup I am going to wear with it. Everything lays beautifully over it and no matter the base I am wearing it sets beautifully. It has those yummy skincare ingredients built in and feels practically weightless. I think that this formula would truly look amazing on all skin types.
Coverage: Medium Buildable
Finish: Hydrated Glow
Color Match: Spot On
My Color: 2N22
Wear Time: 10+ hours
I hope that you love hearing about my favorite foundations for forty! If you have tried any of the foundations that I listed above or if you have a suggestion of what I should review next, leave me a comment below so I can start making my list!
Love and Light,

What’s your skin type? Do you know if the foundations are good for oily skin? Im 41 but my skin is so oily that my foundation breaks down and looks awful after a few hours! Sometimes I wonder if there’s any foundation out there that doesn’t break down and look crappy on oily skin. I’m sure it’s not the foundation, it’s just my skin type!Even a good setting powder doesn’t help. I am thinking of trying the One Size setting spray! They say it’s awesome and makes your makeup last all day, even on oily skin!
I got a sample of the makeup forever hd hydra glow but haven't tried it yet. I'm always on the hunt for something that doesn't make my fine lines look ten times worse. I will have to try some of the other.
My mature skin NEEDED these Recs! Thank you!
I am 48 and have been using polite society per your request and I LOVE it!! I might also try some of the others as well. Thanks for the options!!
I have such a hard time finding the right shade of foundation. It seems right in the store but then I use it and see a picture of myself and feel like I'm 12 again 😆 I really want to try Beauty Counter though!
